Who is Reuben Mowle?

I’m just a small-town guy…

Isle of Wight, born and bred.

I’ve lived on the Isle of Wight my whole life, and although my travels and work have taken me around the world, I have always come back to the Island with a strong sense of home. The Island is my magnet, and I am drawn to it!

Music is where it started for me.

Commercial music and making memes.

I started my filmmaking and Photography journey at uni. After (Embarrassingly) having created some internet memes on I Movie for fun, I picked up a camera to make my band a music video “How hard can it be”

Well, it was quite hard but I absolutely loved it. My fellow musicians at Uni asked me to make one for them too, I was chuffed they asked. I started making them and loved it. Made more. Loved it, and the snowball started from there. When I left uni I looked to pursue this newfound passion of mine, my friend recommended wedding films, this sounded immensely boring to me, but he convinced me that I could do it like the Americans, and make some cool films. I checked out what the American markets were offering and I was BLOWN away at the storytelling and art. I was hooked. So I gave it a shot, 6 years later I still shoot weddings today. That experience gave me the knowledge and confidence to step out into the Commercial market, I started offering Commercial videos and after shooting a small Instagram video for a barber called “Gambling Man” the work enquiries started to come in.

Nosy Marketing

2020 and Nosy marketing.

In December 2019 I joined a company called Nosy Marketing to lead and direct their video department. This was a whole new challenge for me and I had not been employed since 2018, but thankfully I was able to work alongside an amazing director called Matt Greg. He is a kind and compassionate boss and made adapting to new roles and responsibilities all the easier.

Things were going well at Nosy but as you know, the world went into lockdown during 2020, and as my work was mostly events based - it made it extremely hard to find any work at all. So for the majority of 2020, I stayed at home, waiting for the pandemic to end. But to keep myself busy, I took up a new hobby of photographing waves at my local beach. Maybe you’ve seen a few on this site!

By the time the pandemic came to an end Nosy had to take an entirely new approach to the service we offered, instead of events we had to focus on products and documentaries. This was a new path for me and one I particularly enjoyed while at Nosy. But there was something that didn’t quite fit at Nosy, but I wasn’t sure why. I had the job I always wanted, with colleges that were amazing, on the island that I loved… But yet, I couldn’t cope in a work environment.

Glass House Productions

My first Business

In 2017 I joined forces with my dear friend Charlie, and we started a business called Glass House Productions. He’d just dropped out of college and I’d just left uni. We both had full-time jobs but we wanted to make GHP our full-time passion.

At this time, I worked as a toilet cleaner for Pizza Express and a sales assistant at M&S, all at the same time trying to make GHP a success. It was exhausting but I was utterly determined to make my passion a full-time endeavour.

Within a year we were both able to leave out jobs and take on our production business full-time. It was an amazing blast. We had so many laughs and took on so many cool jobs, I’ll never forget my time with Charlie making this first business of ours. However, in 2019, Charlie and I agreed that this venture for him was not the be-all and end-all. He wanted to pursue other things and GHP was no longer going to be part of his carer. So we decided to call it a day with GHP and move on to other things. I am so grateful to Charlie for his hard work and commitment, it was a genuine pleasure! We learned a lot with Glass House Productions, and to this day we are still dear friends, Charlie was a groomsman at my wedding and still hangout as friends.

2022 baby

Where are you now?

Since departing from Nosy in April of 2022, I have had quite the ride.

I’ve worked with some amazing clients and have been blessed to basically pick up where I left off in 2019. I am still working closely with Nosy on many projects and it’s been a pleasure to work with them again under these new conditions. I am delighted with my new work and have been working really hard on my work/life balance for the first time ever.

Goodbye Nosy, but not really

Leaving Nosy marketing to once again, spread my wings.

I remember sitting down with Matt and saying what had basically taken me 2 months to build up the courage to say.

“I think I need to be self-employed”

To my surprise, Matt agreed. He and I both knew that I worked so much better as a sole trader. From then on we decided that I wouldn’t leave Nosy for another business, but I would continue to work for them as a freelance consultant and creative. This means that I still work with Nosy today, and they are technically my biggest client. This move was 100% the best move for me, Matt and Nosy. Although I have technically left, It still feels like I’m very much a part of the team. I still work closely with Matt and the team now and collaborate with them to make amazing content. Thank you Matt for the opportunity to work in a company again, you’re a great boss, and I truly wish you the best in business! If I’m honest, I coulnd’t be happier. Being self-employed is by far the best thing for me. I love being an entrepreneur and deciding my own destiny. Being a sole trader has allowed me to do that.
